We are extremely excited and thrilled to announce that Face Candy Studio is expanding its carnival makeup operation to Barbados Crop Over Festival in 2016. After drawing hundreds of customers in several cities like New York, Port-of Spain, and Toronto, we’ve decided it’s time to share our talents with the crop over lovers.
The service we are offering is quite simple. We are giving masqueraders two carnival makeup packages to choose from. Our most popular makeup service is the Full Diva because it consists primarily of airbrush foundation makeup applied to the face and neck. The fine grains of the face foundation are gently sprayed evenly across the customer’s face giving her a natural look without compromising the amount of coverage necessary to cover blemishes. Airbrush foundation allows the customer to have a matte dry, polished appearance in sunlight. When you couple this with face glitter, exotic eyelashes, and Swarovski crystals, you can easily see why the Full Diva Makeup Service is a top seller. We anticipate this service being in high-demand at Crop Over as well.
The second popular makeup service that we are offering at this year’s Crop Over is called a Newbie. The Newbie consists of traditional liquid or powder foundation applied to the face but with less bells and whistles. Either way, masqueraders, alike will leave extremely happy and content.
The decision to go to Barbados was natural for us, especially for me. Growing up, I listened to a whole lot of calypso music and all I could remember is the song lyrics “Spring Garden ah comiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing!” Oh my goodness. Just pure nostalgia when I think back to the back yard parties with this song playing. Of course the Bajan minorities in the family would always argue over who had the best soca: Trinidad or Barbados. Needless to say, Trinidad won because I jumped up at countless Trinidad carnivals. In the back of my mind, however, I always knew I had to experience Trinidad’s ultimate West Indian rival – Barbados’ Crop Over. I just didn’t know how or when.
With Face Candy Studio growing at an accelerated pace, I am truly humbled to be visiting Crop Over with a staff that has roots in Barbados. My makeup artists that works with me throughout the year, or at specific events, either lives in Barbados, worked in Barbados, has family from the island, or migrated to the states early on. These lovely ladies will be instrumental in helping Face Candy Studio give the crop over masqueraders the service they need and the makeup they desire. The end goal is to make their pre-road beauty prep experience more unique and enjoyable from previous years, and if we can do that for each individual, I’ll be a happy camper.
While the decision to go Barbados’ Crop Over Festival was influenced by many things, our customers were the driving force. We have serviced several Bajan customers in Toronto, New York, and Miami, and they all have asked us one question: When are you going Crop Over? Well, the time has arrived. The dates are set. The team is in place (and growing as we speak). And the customers are trickling in.
My ultimate hope is that the Bajan community and the crop over masqueraders receive us well so we can continue this ultra-unique, and super-fabulous makeup experience in future years. Only time will tell – and after all crop over band launches occur, the countdown to Crop Over 2016 will officially be on!
